Rare Rumuruti (R3) Meteorite

Newly discovered near the Tunezrouft plateau in the vast Sahara desert of Algeria, this rare Rumuruti Chondrite (R3) contains Breccia set in fine grain matrix with distinct chondrules visible throughout the meteorite and was formed in a completely different atmosphere than those of ordinary chondrite meteorites, because they rarely have free iron in them the way ordinary chondrite meteorites do. 

Rumuruti-type meteorites take their name from a 1934 witnessed fall; on January 28, a bright light and loud explosion were observed by locals at around 10:43pm. The shower of stones occurred over ¾ of a mile.
