The Native American plummet tool is a traditional tool used by indigenous people across North America for hunting, fishing, and gathering. The plummet tool, also known as a net weight or line sinker, is typically made of stone, bone, or antler and is shaped like a tear-drop or spindle. The tool is attached to a fishing line or net and helps to pull the line or net deeper into the water.

The plummet tool was often used by Native Americans to catch fish in streams, rivers, and lakes. The weight of the tool helped the fishing line to sink to the bottom of the water, where fish would be feeding. Once the line reached the bottom, the fisherman would slowly pull the line back up, enticing the fish to bite the bait.

Plummet tools were also used for hunting and gathering. When hunting small game, such as rabbits, the plummet tool could be tied to a trap or snare, making it more effective. When gathering nuts or fruits from trees, the plummet tool could be used to help shake the branches, making the nuts or fruits fall to the ground.

The use of plummet tools by Native Americans is an example of the ingenuity and resourcefulness of indigenous people in adapting to their environment and utilizing natural resources to meet their needs. Today, plummet tools continue to be used by some indigenous people for traditional activities and cultural practices.
