Publius Crepusius was one of three moneyers in the Roman Republic in 83-81 B.C. His significance is not due to a direct impact on history, but his coins play an important role in modern numismatic research, the study of currency.

Publius Crepusius used a system of control marks to document which dies were used to mint the coins, and his system is considered one of the most thorough of the time. Control marks, like the one on this coin, can be used to determine where and when a coin was minted, as well as how long the design was issued. This coin was discovered in Europe. It was part of an old collection, and the collector's original notes in Romanian are included.
