1641 Wreck of Nuestra Senora De La Pura y Limpia Concepcion.

These coins were discovered by Brt Webber Jr. and discovery team from Seaquest International at the wreck site of the Concepcion, on the Silver Shoals reef in the economic zone of the Dominican Republic.

In 1641, the Concepción was en route to Spain as part of the Tierra Firme fleet. Unfortunately, the ship encountered severe weather conditions while sailing through the Bahamas, an area notorious for its shallow waters and hidden reefs. On October 31, 1641, the Concepción was driven off course and struck a reef near the Silver Bank, about 80 miles north of the Dominican Republic.

The combination of the storm and the dangerous reefs proved disastrous. The ship broke apart, and most of its crew and passengers perished in the wreck. Of the 500 people on board, only a handful survived.
